INNOVATION

Extreme Immersion

For truly immersive user research, use props to simulate different sensory experiences and understand the world from a different perspective.
Goals
  • Gain empathy for your user
  • Change perspective
  • Unlock new insights
Tool themes
  • User research
  • Empathy

Step into your users’ shoes.

To really understand your users’ needs, you have to experience the world the way they do. Use props like heavy gloves, a cane or crutches, ear plugs, foggy glasses or even prosthetics to simulate a context or point of view relevant to your product. Once you’re ready, it’s time to interact with the world. Take a ride on the subway, for example, or browse in a shop.

During your immersion, pay careful attention to any obstacles you encounter or difficulties you face. Make notes and take pictures. Also remember to observe the people you encounter. How do others react to you? By immersing yourself in a customer's physical environment, you will gain a deeper, more personal understanding of the issues, needs and challenges at stake.
