Before you start
Communicating a clear, vivid vision for your brand not only helps attract customers and investors, it also inspires everyone involved within the organization – including you.
A well-defined vision sets the course for moving your business forward. It begins with the posing of just one question, “How is the world going to look like when my company has achieved its ultimate goal?”
STEP 1
Provide all the participants of the session with Post-it notes and markers. Then pose the question: “What does the world look like once you’ve achieved all your goals?” Ask them to individually brainstorm their response, writing one idea per Post-it. The aim in this step is to go for quantity first. Set the timer for 15 minutes.Once time is up, prompt the group members to share their ideas.
STEP 2
Now it’s time to take all those ideas and consolidate them into a first draft of a Vision Statement. This will be one compelling sentence that encapsulates the desired future outcome the company is aiming for and the impact you want to make.As facilitator, your role is to guide the group discussion toward this ultimate result. Everyone’s brainstormed ideas should be assessed and considered. Remind the group that the Vision Statement is outward looking: The question in Step 1 was, “What does the world look like...?” in this future scenario, and not “What do you/your company look like...?” Consider this session a success once a crisp, one-sentence Vision Statement has been created. This is a first prototype version: For best results, it should continue to be tested and iterated again and again.
